311789_213187825414860_793324817_nI knew this long dreaded moment would come because I’m the father of a little girl. The young man approached me with his eye on the prize of my little girl’s hand. He sized me up and I sized him up. The sweat trickled off my brow as the noon-day sun burned overhead just like the O.K. Corral. Who would draw first?

After our standoff, the fella turned out to be from a good home, and effused Godly character. Overall, I was happy. But, there was one huge problem… the little guy was only seven years-old! Now I’m all for the right man at the right time. Who am I to get in the way of God’s best? But, this was too much. So after some prayer (and a sleepless night) I fired off a letter to the young cowboy (below). Remember fellas, we’re dad from the moment they’re born. Be their protector early and often!

Dear _____,

I hope you’re having a wonderful summer vacation.

My daughter, Peyton, informed me of your interest to take her hand in marriage. I must say, this is a welcomed surprise because you come from a tremendous family of Bible believers, and you are only 7 years old.

As you know, the Bible tells us it is important for those who get married to have Christ at the center of their relationship. Mark 10:6 says, “But at the beginning of creation God made them male and female. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

The Bible also tells us that Peyton Faith is to develop and live out the virtues of a Godly woman, which will bring her future husband great joy and respect. Proverbs 12:4 says, “A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown…”

Finally, the Bible demands that she marry a man who is hard-working and ready to care for her appropriately. Ephesians 5:25 says, “Husbands love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her…”

Based on these things, Peyton’s mother and I would like to ask you consider the following in preparation for Peyton’s hand in marriage:

  1. Exemplify Christ-like character and conduct over the next ten years
  2. Become a committed member of a Bible believing church
  3. Retain a job or career that will provide for your wife and children
  4. Allow time for our family to meet you and observe your character
  5. Wholeheartedly support the Angels and not the Dodgers

If two people trust the Word of God as their spiritual authority, marriage is the best relationship on earth. Please consider these items with your mother and father and let me know how best to pray and support you. My cell # and email are below.

Sincerely,

Tony

(Peyton’s Dad)
